Everyday we live in a world in which specific materials are used for specific things including: wood is used for furniture and floors, fabrics for upholstery and window treatment, etc. However, more and more we are seeing materials used in a different, unusual way. Today you can find fruit drink purses, duct tape watches, aluminum can walls, etc. but what really caught my eye was a motherboard coffee table. It is awesome.
I am not sure how it is constructed or what supports it, but the legs and covered in numerous motherboards. The top and bottom are covered in them too but there is an addition piece of glass atop the motherboards to give it a flat surface to still be functional. Overall the design is very simple, but perhaps time consuming considering all the motherboards are different lengths and widths and have other pieces jutting out of the motherboards. The designers did a well job making it functional and aesthetically pleasing.
As exciting as this unusual material of motherboards is, it is not something that many people would want for themselves, and how functional it actually is, is questionable. Many people may look at this coffee table and see a pile of junk with a piece of glass thrown on it. Yet, it is like a piece of art that deserves attention and to be seen but making it work in an interior room design might be difficult for a designer. Functionally it can support things like a table; yet how sturdy is it and what about if kids are running around and ran into that. It could definitely hurt them a lot.
Another aspect to look at is how to maintain an unusual piece like this. How would one keep it clean? That may be difficult with all the various levels of the motherboards. And anything spilled on it could permanently damage it. Overall this was a great find and quite the unusual piece of furniture.

I could easily see this being used for furniture at like a programming office! It would be so crazy!
ReplyDeleteSo I don't know how comfortable the chair would be but I really love it. the coffee table seems like it would pick up a lot of colors from all the metal pieces. Awesome. Great job Jordan!
