Photo Analysis

            I really enjoyed finding this interior photograph. The space is beautiful and the furniture and accessories only add to its beauty. The space is clearly in a major city in an upper level apartment and appears to be a family living space.

            One of the first major elements of design that stands out are the vertical and horizontal lines that are everywhere in this room.  There are several vertical ones created from the tall windows as well as vertical lines from the side tables, sofas, coffee table, and even the large piece of artwork and the plant on the left side of the room. In addition all of these elements also have strong horizontal lines as well.

            A second element would be the focal point of the room which is the magnificent outside view of the city created on the left side of the photograph of the room. The furniture and accessories all lead the eye in that direction towards the windows. Another element is shape. They are many right angles that created the vertical and horizontal lines but they have also created many squares and rectangles, most of which can be found in the furniture artwork and windows.  In addition the plants and accessories also have unique abstract shapes that create a larger variety within the space.

            A fourth element that can be found in the room is the great use of color. I personally love a lot of color but in small fitting amounts that make something pop.  This “pop” can be found in this space through the one yellow blanket, a red bowl on the table, the red, orange, and yellow flowers, the blue artwork, etc. The rest of the room is very neutral with the use of white or cream, tans, and blacks. In addition to color the contrast of the white/cream ceiling and the darker rug and furniture adds to the space very nicely. It makes the space feel more open with a lighter ceiling and a heavier floor, which is ideal for some people.

            A final element of balance and symmetry can be seen in this space. There are two couches and two coffee tables opposite one another. As well each has an end table with flowers and the same focal point towards the view outside.
